After spending the past few years contemplating moving to another house that would meet their needs, the owners of this 1940's Grandview home decided to remodel their home instead.

As with so many homeowners who remodel, the owners loved their home, location, and neighbors. However, they felt their home needed some changes to meet their current lifestyle needs. Remodeling their home would give them the ability to tailor their home to their needs without relocation.

Their home needed a bigger kitchen with eating area, an entertainment area, a first floor bath and a more open floor plan to fully use their first floor space.

After initial discussions with R. J. Landis Design & Construction, Inc. company President, Ron Landis, Ron was able to determine solutions to their needs and establish a project budget. Ron's design solutions exceeded the homeowners' expectations and they quickly agreed to proceed with the design and then construction of their project.

The existing kitchen was very small and narrow. To achieve a larger kitchen, an addition was added to the rear of the home and a wall between the kitchen and dining room was moved to make the new kitchen wider and longer. The wall that was moved between the kitchen and dining room was opened up for ease of entertaining larger gatherings and gives the area a more open atmosphere.

The access to the kitchen from the front of the house was changed, and now there is a direct path from the front door to the new, large kitchen area. Because the kitchen was expanded, space in the original kitchen was used for a first floor powder room.

The living room was redesigned by removing a window and adding a custom-built entertainment center. Now the entire first floor can be fully used.

This project highlights many functional products and features such as shaker-style hickory cabinets, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, wide plank maple flooring, new, larger windows, and halogen lighting.
