Remodeling a small kitchen in your home into a bigger, more functional space can be very challenging. The homeowners of this 1950's Upper Arlington Cape Cod home wished for a bigger kitchen that was more enjoyable to work in every day and more open for socializing. Sometimes an addition is necessary to satisfy the homeowners' remodeling needs. For this project, an addition was not practical. The design/build professionals at R. J. Landis determined that the best solution to gain the extra-needed space for the kitchen was to use existing space within the house.

Adjoining the kitchen was a very large formal living room, which, like many others, was not used to its full potential. The wall between the living room and the kitchen was removed and a new wall was added across the end of the living room, reducing its size to a more comfortable space.

The newly expanded kitchen space now allows for an "L" design with a small table area. A custom-built entertainment center matches the kitchen cabinets and hides the audio/visual equipment. The remainder of the new space incorporates a flat screen TV with enough room for seating. The new kitchen/eating/TV space includes: an open floor plan, a large bay window behind the kitchen sink, Blue Pearl granite countertops, and hardwood floors.

An added feature to this project was the remodel and upgrade of the adjoining first floor hall bath. The bath used many of the same materials as the kitchen to tie the entire project together for a seamless design.
